SAN FRANCISCO — Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword launched worldwide Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store, the company said in a Games Press release. The release is the first new Onimusha installment in 20 years.

The game drops players into a twisted vision of Edo-period Kyoto, weaving real locations, local myths, and historical figures into a dark fantasy. Protagonist Miyamoto Musashi — a young samurai whose likeness in the game is based on late Japanese film star Toshiro Mifune — crosses paths with the demonic Genma and gains an Oni Gauntlet that grants abilities beyond human limits. Combat centers on sword-to-sword clashes with parrying, deflecting, and dodging, plus the series’ signature Issen counterattacks and Soul Absorption. Musashi also unlocks Oni Armaments and Oni Abilities for supernatural feats in and out of battle, including paths into previously unreachable areas and boss duels.

A free public demo is out now on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Nintendo eShop, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Capcom lists voice support for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional text options), plus text support for Latin American Spanish, Polish, Arabic, and Korean. Supporting assets are available from the Capcom Press Center; the launch trailer is on Capcom’s official YouTube channel.
