UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Minnesota Lynx rookie guard Olivia Miles broke Caitlin Clark’s WNBA record for points by a rookie in a single season on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026, in Minnesota’s 101-89 win over the Connecticut Sun, according to the Associated Press via The Guardian, NBC Sports, and MPR News.

Miles entered the game tied with Clark at 769 points. She moved alone atop the list on a free throw 29 seconds into the second quarter — her 770th point of the season — after a scoreless first quarter, The Guardian and NBC Sports reported. MPR News, citing the AP, said the record free throw came with 9:31 left in the second quarter. She finished with 21 points (7-of-10 from the field, 6-of-6 from the line, per The Guardian). Napheesa Collier led Minnesota with 23 points, MPR reported.

Miles and Clark both reached their season totals in 40 games, The Guardian and NBC Sports noted. The WNBA regular season now runs longer than when Clark set the mark in 2024, but Sunday was Miles’s 40th game. Coming in, Miles was averaging about 19.7 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.7 rebounds and was a major reason the Lynx held the league’s best record, those reports said. She was selected second overall in the draft after playing at Notre Dame and TCU and was named an All-Star as a rookie.

“It’s special, but it means we’re more so working well as a team,” Miles said after the game, per The Guardian. “I have great teammates around me, great vets who allow me to be me out there… So it’s really special to obviously be able to accomplish that with such a great team and on a win as well.”

The Lynx (32-10 per MPR) snapped a three-game skid and moved closer to locking up the top playoff seed. The Sun fell to 10-32. Miles had already broken other Clark-held rookie marks earlier this season, including most threes by a rookie in a game (eight vs. Golden State on June 4), The Guardian reported.
