State of Play dates Final Fantasy VII Revelation for April 8, 2027
PlayStation packed two State of Play broadcasts into Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026 — a main show and State of Play Japan — and put dates on the calendar that studios had been sitting on. The official recap on the PlayStation Blog lists more than 30 games. The closer was Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
Square Enix told PlayStation Blog that Revelation, the last game in the VII Remake trilogy, launches on PlayStation 5 on April 8, 2027. Pre-orders opened on PlayStation Store the same day. New footage showed the Highwind, chocobo traversal with Piko, a grappling gun, and the FITS combat layer — Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner outfits that change move sets and appearance. Queen’s Blood returns with a Red XIII storyline. A Premium Edition adds a Story Expansion Pass and 24-hour early access; Premium Plus stacks a digital art book, mini soundtrack, and extra materia and gear.
Other dates from the recap: Until Dawn 2 (Firesprite, with AdHoc Studio) on Jan. 28, 2027; Metro 2039 from 4A Games on Feb. 4, 2027, with a PS5 Pro gameplay look; Gundam Rogue Orbit on March 5, 2027; Fate/Extra Record on Jan. 28, 2027 for PS5 and PS4. Closer in: Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine still hits Sept. 15, 2026; Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil film opens in theaters Sept. 18; Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition on Oct. 1 bundles the Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion and Most Wanted survival mode. Pearl Abyss dated the Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown expansion to Oct. 15. Two limited-edition Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense controllers go up for pre-order Sept. 10 and launch Nov. 19 — the same day PlayStation Blog lists for Grand Theft Auto VI on PS5.
The show also sprung Maneater 2 (Tripwire, “next year”), Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance in 2027, Double Fine’s wordless puzzle Keeper out the same day as the broadcast, and a first-ever LEGO replica of the original PlayStation console on Oct. 1. Square Enix separately put a free first-chapter Final Fantasy Resonance demo on PS5 today, with Sephiroth as a challenge boss, ahead of an Oct. 22 launch. PlayStation Plus added Mycopunk to the Game Catalog later this year and named Mega Man X: Command Mission, Dino Crisis 2, and the original Ratchet & Clank for Premium Classics.
Two hours of trailers is how Sony sells a hardware generation between Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show. The dates that matter for anyone keeping a calendar: Wolverine in 12 days, a Resident Evil movie the week after, GTA VI hardware and the game itself in November, and the last VII remake on April 8.
