Moss VR studio Polyarc is shutting down after 12 years
SEATTLE — Polyarc, the indie studio behind the acclaimed Moss VR platformers, said it is shutting down after nearly 12 years, PC Gamer reported Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, citing the studio’s LinkedIn farewell.
“After nearly 12 years riding the joyous rollercoaster of emotions that is making video games, our time together has come to an end,” Polyarc wrote. “As we wind down active development, we are saying our farewells to each other.” The post linked a spreadsheet of roughly 30 developers’ contacts to help with recruitment and closed: “Thank you to everyone at Polyarc, our work is now finished.”
Founded in 2015, Polyarc debuted with Moss (2018), a PSVR-born third-person mouse adventure that mixed classic platforming with VR “Reader” interactions, then followed with Moss: Book II (2022). The games racked up more than 160 awards and nominations. A 2025 PvP spinoff, Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss, drew a thin audience; later that year the studio lost funding for a mid-development project and failed to land a publisher “hail mary,” culminating in layoffs of about two-thirds of staff earlier in 2026, per PC Gamer.
Polyarc’s final release, Moss: The Forgotten Relic — a flatscreen compilation of the first two games plus the Twilight Garden expansion, co-developed with Blackbird Interactive — launched in July to strong reviews but not enough sales to sustain what remained of the company. As the studio winds down, Moss and Book II VR editions are half-off and The Forgotten Relic is discounted on storefronts, PC Gamer noted.
Another beloved indie VR shop exits after the hit that made its name couldn’t subsidize the misses — a familiar market story, just sharper when the mouse that won BAFTAs still can’t keep 30 people employed.
