World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard’s permanent Classic+ timeline, launching Nov. 4
ANAHEIM — Blizzard Entertainment closed the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 12, by unveiling World of Warcraft: Forever — the long-rumored “Classic+” experience, now a named, permanent branch of Azeroth that will live alongside modern World of Warcraft and WoW Classic.
According to Blizzard News, Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST. Access is included with a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. A beta begins Thursday, September 17, 2026, and runs through October 21, 2026, PST, for players who pick up qualifying optional upgrade packs.
The setting is deliberate: after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core — original Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, level cap 60, with Blizzard promising to keep expanding that evergreen Year One timeline rather than treating it as a frozen museum piece. In its What’s Next panel recap, Blizzard was blunt: Forever “is not a mode, a season, or a new version of Classic,” but a permanent home built from what the studio learned with Classic and Season of Discovery.
Warcraft executive producer Holly Longdale, quoted by Variety, framed the pitch around the world itself as a main character and said that in Forever it’s “the journey that counts, not the destination.” That matches Blizzard’s own marketing line that the journey matters as much as the destination — leveling, dungeons, exploration, and social play over a rush to the endgame. The studio’s panel pillars include no flying mounts, no level scaling, and a continued focus on challenge, preparation, and cooperation.
Skyborne elves, new zones, and more Azeroth to walk
Forever’s headline new race is the Skyborne (also styled Skyborne elves), with a Zephras Isle starting experience from levels 1–12. At character creation, players choose Alliance or Horde: Alliance-aligned Skyborne gain access to the Mage class, Horde-aligned Skyborne to Shaman; both factions can also play Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid, including new Skyborne-specific druid forms, per Blizzard’s Forever What’s Next panel recap.
Blizzard says the level 1–60 journey includes new and reimagined regions and more than a thousand new quests. Named destinations include helping restore Mount Hyjal, exploring Shen’dralas, the Riverglades frontier, and Zephras Isle. The same panel lists nine new dungeons (including destinations such as the Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, and Alcaz Prison), raids at Hyjal Summit and the Barrow Deeps, and a new Darkspear Islands battleground. New raids unlock December 9, with more raids, dungeons, PvP, world content, Hardcore, and major updates promised afterward.
Optional packs, beta, and Invite-A-Friend launch week
Base Forever is on the subscription. Optional Battle.net upgrade editions — the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack, and limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection — add early name reservation, Skyborne race access, cosmetics, and Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes. Beta access is tied to the Epic Pack and Forever Collection. Per Blizzard’s pre-purchase post, Invite-A-Friend codes let eligible friends play Forever without a subscription during launch week, November 4–11, 2026 (codes emailed beginning October 20).
Secondary coverage from PC Gamer and Kotaku tracks the same core numbers — level 60 for the foreseeable future, three new zones plus overhauled vanilla map gaps, nine dungeons, two raids, and a Nov. 4 ship date. BlizzCon’s other stage reveals (including a new StarCraft shooter and Diablo Netflix talk) are separate stories; Forever is the WoW Classic+ bet that actually has a calendar.
