Netflix added Ridley Scott's Alien (1979), James Cameron's Aliens (1986), and the four original Jaws films to its U.S. library on Monday, Sept. 1, 2026, according to Netflix's Tudum "New on Netflix" guide for September.

Tudum's logline for Alien: after intercepting a distress signal on a mysterious moon, a spaceship crew explores a derelict alien ship — and brings something hostile back on board. For Aliens: found after decades in hypersleep, Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) joins a team of Marines on a mission to the planet where she first encountered a menacing alien.

The Jaws package is the complete original theatrical franchise. Tudum lists Jaws (1975), Jaws 2 (1978), Jaws 3 (1983), and Jaws: The Revenge (1987), all dated Sept. 1. The 1975 film is the Steven Spielberg hit about a great white shark and the police chief, oceanographer, and shark hunter who try to stop it. The three sequels follow the Brody family and Amity Island through later attacks, a theme-park setting, and a Bahamas finale.

Those titles sit in a larger Sept. 1 licensed dump that also includes Ready or Not, several Resident Evil live-action sequels, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and comedies such as 17 Again and Liar Liar. They are catalog acquisitions, not Netflix originals. How long any of them stay is a licensing question Netflix does not answer in the Tudum list.

What Netflix bought for the first day of September is recognition. Alien and Aliens are the two films that defined the xenomorph for a generation. Jaws invented the modern summer blockbuster. Putting both franchises on the same add date is a programming choice aimed at people who still pick movies by poster. The rights holders remain 20th Century and Universal. Netflix is the pipe.
