Netflix will release UNABOMBER, an original feature about Ted Kaczynski, worldwide on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, the streamer's Tudum page and September guide say. Jacob Tremblay plays the young Kaczynski. Russell Crowe plays Harvard psychology professor Henry Murray. Shailene Woodley plays FBI agent Joanne Miller.

Tudum's plot line: "Inspired by true events, UNABOMBER follows Ted Kaczynski's (Jacob Tremblay) transformation from Harvard prodigy into the infamous Unabomber. Subjected to controversial psychological experiments by Professor Henry Murray (Russell Crowe), Kaczynski's troubled past resurfaces decades later when his manhunt, led by FBI agent Joanne Miller (Shailene Woodley), brings to light the chilling consequences of ambition and isolation."

Janus Metz (Borg vs McEnroe, All the Old Knives) directs from a script by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves. Sophie Cassidy produces for 2.0 Entertainment in association with MRC. Annabelle Wallis plays Christiana Morgan; Alexander Ludwig, Steven Ogg, and Marc Menchaca also appear. Netflix's title card lists the film at 1 hour 38 minutes and rated R.

"UNABOMBER is a story about a young man who feels increasingly disenfranchised by society and decides to take up violence as a means of revenge," Metz told Tudum. "We crosscut between two timelines, roughly speaking: the making of the Unabomber and the capture of the Unabomber." Tremblay said he did not know Kaczynski had gone to Harvard until he read the script, and that he wanted to play him "as a real person," not a caricature.

Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter reported that Netflix dropped the first trailer on Aug. 27. The real Kaczynski's mail-bomb campaign killed three people and injured 23 between 1978 and 1995; those are historical facts. The film's Harvard-experiment framing and Woodley's FBI agent are dramatizations Netflix is selling as inspired by true events. They are not a documentary verdict.

Sept. 25 puts the movie late in Netflix's September slate, after Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Again? on Sept. 9 and the same day's other features. What Netflix is putting on the calendar is a prestige true-crime original with two movie stars and a teenage lead in the bomber's seat. The streamer owns the release date. History owns the body count.
