HOUMA, La. — Four people were stabbed to death and a boy under 10 was left in critical condition after a series of stabbings Saturday night (Sept. 12, 2026) in the Ashland Drive area of Houma, and Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, of Houma was taken into custody Sunday morning as the person of interest and later called the suspect, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office said, FOX 8 reported.

Deputies first responded to the 200 block of Ashland Drive, where they found a child — a boy under the age of 10 — who had run to a neighbor’s house with serious stab wounds, the sheriff’s office said. The child was flown by Acadian Ambulance Service Air Med to a hospital outside the area and remained in critical condition early Sunday. As deputies continued investigating, they found four dead victims inside two nearby homes.

The agency identified Solet as a “person of interest” and said in a social media post at about 10:32 a.m. Sunday that he had been taken into custody. FOX 8 reported the sheriff’s office later said Solet is considered the suspect in the fatal stabbings. Victim identities, any relationships among those involved, and a motive had not been released as of midday Sunday (about 12:06 p.m. ET).

Solet has prior arrests and charges involving stabbing allegations that did not result in convictions on those counts. In January 2019 he was charged with the murder of Kemple Paul Scott Lovell, a homeless man found dead with stab wounds in Houma; a grand jury later declined to indict (no-billed / pretermitted for lack of evidence), according to contemporaneous reporting cited by the New York Post. In December 2019 he was charged with attempted second-degree murder in a Red Carpet Inn motel stabbing of a 59-year-old woman in Houma and was found not guilty in November 2023, the Post and Fox News reported. Those prior matters are separate from the current investigation; charges are allegations, and Solet has not been convicted in those earlier cases.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to call Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives at (985) 876-2500 or Crime Stoppers Bayou Region at (800) 743-7433.
