MALIBU, Calif. — Private security stopped a woman who entered former Vice President Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff’s Malibu property Friday night before she reached the house; Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies took a trespassing report and made no arrest, the Los Angeles Times and NBC News reported Sept. 12, 2026.

Harris spokesperson Eduardo Negrón said Saturday that security “stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff’s property before the individual reached the home,” and that the couple “were not present” and were “grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly,” NBC News and the LA Times reported.

Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s deputies responded around 10:30 p.m. Friday after Harris’s on-site detail called about a suspicious person, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department statement cited by NBC News. “The individual who was outside of the property upon our arrival was warned and advised by deputies to leave the premises and left voluntarily without incident,” the department said. A trespassing report was taken; no arrests were made. Lt. Jason Duron told the LA Times patrols of the property would be stepped up “to be safe.”

The woman’s identity was not released. Reporting differed slightly on how far she got — Harris’s office said she was stopped before reaching the home; some local accounts described contact at or near the front door — but all agreed she left without being taken into custody.

The episode lands amid an ongoing fight over Harris’s post-office security. Former vice presidents typically receive six months of Secret Service protection under a 2008 statute; then-President Joe Biden extended Harris’s coverage, and President Donald Trump revoked the extension in August 2025, NBC News and the LA Times reported. Los Angeles Police Department involvement was later dropped amid local criticism; the California Highway Patrol still assists Harris’s detail but was not on-site Friday night, CHP Sgt. Christian Stevens told the LA Times.
