BOSTON — Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney Kevin Reddington appeared Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, on ABC’s Good Morning America with George Stephanopoulos and asked President Donald Trump to consider a pardon for Clancy after Friday’s mistrial — a request that runs straight into the Constitution’s hard limit on presidential clemency for state crimes.

According to Blaze Media’s reporting of the GMA appearance, Reddington addressed Trump directly:

“I’d like to say that perhaps Donald Trump, who felt compelled to speak out about this case, may very well, Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady, the type of person she is, what she’s been through, and consider a pardon.”

Reddington also said he is open to talking with Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz about a possible plea, per Blaze’s account of the interview:

“I’m willing to listen to Tim. I’ve known Tim for 30 years… I hope… he would revisit that issue and hopefully would be able to work something out that would be acceptable to both sides.”

WCVB reported Monday that Reddington was booked for the exclusive one-on-one with Stephanopoulos after Friday’s mistrial, when Judge William Sullivan ended the nearly seven-week Plymouth Superior Court trial after jurors deadlocked following about seven days of deliberations. Clancy faces Massachusetts state murder charges for strangling her three children in Duxbury in January 2023. The defense argued postpartum psychosis and overmedication; the jury hung. Cruz has not announced whether his office will seek a retrial. A status hearing is already set for Sept. 29.

Trump weighed in after the mistrial — and cannot pardon this case

Trump commented after Friday’s mistrial, as Insanity Developing previously reported and as Blaze reiterated Tuesday. He said Clancy “did a horrible, horrible thing. Can’t be worse,” that there will be a “price to pay,” and floated “mental institution or jail or something.”

That Oval Office theater does not rewrite Article II. The presidential pardon power covers “Offences against the United States” — federal crimes — not Massachusetts state charges. Clancy was charged by the Commonwealth, not by the United States. Any state clemency would sit with Gov. Maura Healey, not the White House. Concentrated federal power cannot paper over a state murder prosecution, no matter how loud the morning-show ask.

Blaze noted the same constitutional wall: if Cruz retries or pleas the case, it remains a state matter, and pardoning power rests with the Massachusetts governor. Blaze said it sought comment from the White House and Healey’s office.

What Tuesday’s GMA hit actually moves is political narrative, not legal authority. Reddington put a national audience on a pardon Trump cannot grant and a plea Cruz has not offered. The Sept. 29 status hearing is still the next court date that matters.
