Trump says Triumphal Arch will double as a military drone-and-sniper complex
President Donald Trump said Sunday that his planned Triumphal Arch near Arlington National Cemetery will be converted into a “top grade Military Complex,” adding drones, snipers, and ammunition storage to a project already facing litigation and historic-preservation pushback.
In a morning Truth Social post quoted by the Washington Examiner and a CNN Newsource dispatch, Trump wrote that “at the strong request of the United States Military, and for National Security purposes,” he had agreed to convert the arch planned “at the Receptive Circle adjoining the Arlington Memorial Bridge” into a “top grade Military Complex/Triumphal Arch.”
The structure, Trump said, would “house, store, and have the rapid ability to use large numbers of drones, plus Snipers, on both the roof and plaza areas,” and “hold large quantities of sniper ammunition in storage.” He added: “There will be no facility like this anywhere in the World.”
CNN reported the arch is proposed as a roughly 250-foot span across from Arlington National Cemetery. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said earlier this month the administration was preparing to break ground even as litigation continues, according to the same CNN account. Critics have long argued the location would obstruct commemorative views along the Potomac; Trump has separately pitched military and national-security components for his White House ballroom project.
Neither the White House nor the Pentagon had publicly detailed how a commemorative arch would operate as a drone-and-sniper depot when CNN said it sought comment Sunday. Using a “national security” label to lock in a presidential prestige monument on sensitive federal land is the kind of power move that deserves daylight — whether or not the drones ever show up.
