Vikings rule out Kyler Murray with concussion in Week 1 debut vs. Packers
Two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Kyler Murray’s Minnesota Vikings debut in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers ended early Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, after he was ruled out with a concussion, CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell reported.
Murray’s first pass of the afternoon was an interception into double coverage against a Packers blitz. Later on a third-and-6 scramble, he appeared to start his slide after gaining about a yard when Packers safety Javon Bullard hit him late from the side. Murray landed awkwardly and grabbed his knee; Bullard was flagged for unnecessary roughness. The penalty moved the chains with 6:16 left in the first quarter and Green Bay leading 9-0.
Murray went straight to the locker room. Shortly afterward, the Vikings announced: QB Kyler Murray has been ruled out with a concussion — the club’s official statement on Sept. 13, 2026, as cited by CBS Sports.
His line before exiting: 3-of-5 for 18 yards and one interception, plus two rushes for 9 yards. Eleven-year veteran Carson Wentz filled in for the injured Murray.
A Week 1 debut cut short by a late hit and a concussion protocol exit is a brutal open for Minnesota’s new quarterback era — and an early test of depth behind Murray with Wentz under center for the rest of the afternoon.
