Pete Alonso’s 300th HR ties Mets in 9th; Orioles win 7–5 on Mayo’s inside-the-parker
NEW YORK — Pete Alonso hit his 300th career home run Tuesday night, Sept. 15, 2026 — a game-tying solo shot in the ninth inning against his former Mets team — and Coby Mayo’s three-run inside-the-park homer in the 11th lifted the Baltimore Orioles to a 7–5 win at Citi Field, CBS New York and CBS Sports reported.
With Baltimore trailing and one out in the ninth, Alonso faced Mets right-hander Kodai Senga with the bases empty. After taking two offspeed pitches out of the zone, Alonso drove the third an estimated 414 feet for career homer No. 300, tying the score at 3–3, CBS New York said. He spiked his bat toward the Orioles dugout as a crowd of 28,097 roared; fans chanted his name until he took a curtain call, then some turned to “Fire Stearns” chants aimed at Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns.
Alonso spent his entire Mets career before signing with Baltimore last December and held the franchise home-run record with 264 as a Met. He was hitless in his first seven plate appearances of the series before the milestone blast. CBS Sports noted he became the 171st member of the 300-homer club; the shot was his 36th of the season, and he entered the night leading the American League in RBI.
The game stayed locked into extras. After the teams traded runs in the 10th, Mayo snapped a 4–4 tie in the 11th with two outs on an 0–2 pitch from Jonathan Pintaro — a drive to center that glanced off rookie A.J. Ewing’s glove as Ewing crashed into the fence. The ball rolled away, and Mayo circled the bases for an inside-the-park three-run homer, CBS New York reported. Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Jeremiah Jackson also homered for the Orioles (74–78), who remained three games behind Cleveland for the last AL playoff spot.
Dated Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026 (reported into Wednesday): Alonso’s 300th HR ties it in the 9th vs. Mets at Citi Field; Mayo’s inside-the-parker in the 11th wins it 7–5; Mets fans cheer the Polar Bear, then some chant against Stearns.
