Ronald Acuña Jr. hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning Wednesday night at Nationals Park and became the fastest player in Major League Baseball history to reach 200 home runs and 200 stolen bases, powering the Atlanta Braves past the Washington Nationals 9-0.

The drive to left-center was Acuña’s 14th home run of the season and the landmark that put him in the 200/200 club in 904 career games. Alfonso Soriano held the previous mark at 929 games, set in August 2006 — while Soriano was with the Nationals against the Braves, the Associated Press reported.

Earlier in the sixth, Acuña led off with a single against Riley Cornelio (2-2), then stole second for the 225th stolen base of his career and his 20th of the season. After Michael Harris II was walked intentionally, Sean Murphy took Cornelio deep to left for a three-run homer that broke a scoreless tie — Murphy’s third home run in five games.

Acuña’s three-run shot in the seventh made it 6-0. Austin Riley’s two-run single in the eighth and another Murphy RBI single in the ninth finished the 9-0 final. Acuña went 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI. The Braves improved to 83-57; the Nationals fell to 67-75, per the ESPN box score.

Rain interrupted the game for 1 hour, 25 minutes in the fourth. Acuña had led off that inning with a single off Nationals starter Brad Lord before a walk and an error loaded the bases; when play resumed, Cornelio retired Murphy and Mike Yastrzemski to escape. Grant Holmes needed only 26 pitches to retire the first nine Nationals before the delay. Dylan Dodd worked a scoreless inning, and Elieser Hernández (2-0) threw the next three, allowing two hits — including James Wood’s two-out single in the sixth for Washington’s first hit of the night.

Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz left in the fourth after taking a foul ball off his mask.

The Braves open a four-game series Friday at Philadelphia with LHP Chris Sale (13-9, 2.06) opposite Phillies LHP Cristopher Sánchez (16-4, 2.52). Washington begins a series at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
