Netflix will release Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, the fourth season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's true-crime anthology, on Sept. 17, 2026. Tudum published the date with first-look photos by Suzanne Tenner and a teaser trailer. All eight episodes drop the same day.

The season centers on the 1892 axe murders of Andrew and Abby Borden in Fall River, Massachusetts, and the trial of their daughter Lizzie, who was acquitted. It is the anthology's first installment built around an alleged female perpetrator. Netflix's official synopsis: a repressed daughter and a rebellious maid trapped in a house of humiliation and cruelty escape into a fantasy of sex, power, and revenge; the murders that follow "give birth to an icon."

Ella Beatty plays Lizzie Borden. "I am so excited for viewers to experience our exploration of Lizzie Borden's story and the questions that her life animates to this day," Beatty told Tudum. "This season gives us our first female Monster and delves into female rage and repression which I've found to feel strikingly relevant."

Cast, per Tudum: Vicky Krieps as Bridget "Maggie" Sullivan; Charlie Hunnam as Andrew Borden; Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden; Billie Lourd as Emma Borden; Jessica Barden as Nance O'Neil; Sarah Paulson as Aileen Wuornos. Paulson's Wuornos appears in later-set scenes that Tudum says explore why women kill — thematic connective tissue, not a claim that Wuornos was present in 1892 Fall River.

Ian Brennan wrote the season. Directors include Max Winkler and Sarah Adina Smith. Prior seasons covered Jeffrey Dahmer (2022), the Menendez brothers (2024), and Ed Gein (2025). Rating: TV-MA. Streaming Sept. 17, only on Netflix.
